RESEARCH STATEMENT

It’s indeed a once in a life opportunity to dream, aspire and get the opportunity to do research on topics affecting mankind. Humanity faces a severe threat in the form COVID-19 crisis which has affected the business in all forms starting from the raw materials until the production. There is a need to develop a clean sustainable energy model in all sectors ranging from Transport, Building, Industrial, and Residential sectors.

Direct sunlight is potentially the most powerful renewable energy source. In less than an hour, the Earth receives the same amount of energy from the sun as is used globally by man during a year. In contrast to most other energy technologies, solar energy is only limited by the cost of conversion and intermittency in time. Direct use of sunlight yields up to 100 times more electricity, per land area than growing biomass for use in power plants. Solar energy at present only amounts to a small fraction of the World’s primary energy supply but solar technology markets are developing and growing fast. My long-term goal is to carry out interdisciplinary research on solar thermal and solar fuel technologies that can provide policymakers, researchers, and the practitioner’s valuable insights through experimental studies, mathematical modeling, and analysis. Below I present several indicate.

KEY RESEARCH AREAS

My primary research focus is solar PV and thermal systems in general with secondary interests in energy and environmental solutions. My research goal is to study solar-driven Photovoltaic, thermal, thermochemical, and electrochemical energy conversion and storage processes. Specifically, the design, development, and experimentation of solar PV and thermal systems. This includes Floating solar systems, solar dryers, solar still, solar Sterling engine, and concentrated solar power for small-scale thermal applications in residential buildings, and industries.

My aim to bring about transformational efficiency enhancements in solar thermal energy (power generation to heat applications), by fundamentally integrating with thermal storage systems. The focus of our research is directed towards 1) fundamental research on solar PV and thermal systems and 2) applied research on devices and systems including solar photovoltaic and thermal energy conversion and polygeneration through R & D and 3) suggests suitable options with less impact for long term sustainable solutions across the world.

More generally, with my expertise in solar energy systems, energy modeling, and energy efficiency, I plan to carry out interdisciplinary research by collaborating with domain experts in various fields, identifying relevant problems, and developing new methodologies.
